910Arts Presents “Taking Root – The Vision of Wangari Maathai”

This film tells the inspiring story of the Green Belt Movement of Kenya and its unstoppable founder, Wangari Maathai, who became the first environmentalist and first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Maathai is internationally recognized for her persistent struggle for democracy, human rights and environmental conservation. To date the Green Belt Movement has planted over 35 million trees.
Moderated by Lucas Nandh Shamala, Ph.D., assitant professor of African and African-American Studies, Metron State College of Denver.
Presented in collaboration with the Colorado Committee on Africa and the Caribbean and Transition Denver.
