IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS ON COLORADO TRANSITION NETWORK

I am very active on the web site www.chrismartenson.com and I think the transition community would find the Crash Course very informative. I've ordered, but have not yet received 100 of the DVDs which I can make available if you want one, however, you can watch it for free at the web site. The first 5 chapters take only 15 minutes. If you don't find it interesting after that, then forget it. Otherwise, let's talk. Thanks ... Don

Hey, Todd! Thanks for replying. I'm in Broomfield. Where are you?
Am really happy to hear the endorsement of Chris Martenson's wonderful 20 chapter very clear Crash Course that sets the total stage for entering Transition, he stops short of where we go with this knowledge, it turns out Transition and Permaculture flows out of every pore of this course to give direction for positive journeys into all our relocalization efforts, reskillings, awareness raisings, unleashings, re-designing our towns for preparedness, feeding ourselves, living creatively and self-empowering solutions.

I was asked by several persons to read through the course and was put off by the hard sell so waited, but then began & the narration format combined with entire text before me was so clear and made so much sense, I did the whole course in 3 days sitting late into the night, it gripped me till I pushed myself to sleep.

I already knew the story of the creation of the dollar, about the federal reserve, about coining currency, inflation in general but not his jarring particulars which are criminally held from the people, and I knew currency's changes in time, had experienced from family exodus the hyperinflation in Germany-I have the whole collection of progressing devaluated bills. But Chris ties all things together into a progression and relationships that makes it easy to agree with, and move on from there to do everything we can. His premises demand our action. His accumulating graphs are powerful, I did some screen shots of the ones I thought would be good for the shorter introductions I have to make to Transition and Permaculture.

thanks for posting Rob Hopkin's message, Tod.

I sent it on to my planning commission to read and am adding it to my BOT & other governing bodies to study carefully.

I find some people who are already helping with Transition in their towns still have not decided that Peak Oil really exists.

This has been my strategy:
1) use the Crash Course to "get someone's attention," that is, touch on the need for action, if not urgency.
2) use Transition Town movement as the solution, that is, provide an outlet for their new-found need to act.
I have no proof that this strategy is working. It's just what I'm doing, at this stage, to make my contribution to the world and, specifically, to my center of influence.

Best wishes to all! ... Don
Yes the way is to not impose but expose and then give what you know that is positive to do. It feels very good to have no stake personally (you know, the ego power trip), rather, only for the good of the community, and I don't know either what the response will add up to yet, but mycelium works like this down under, unseen, it does miraculous healing and transformations.
The added value in the 2 day event will be personal discussion with Chris and his wife, Becca, and personal discussion with like-minded people in the area ... finding each other ... as well as, working through the Action Plan exercises with input from a wide variety of perspectives.

Hope you will come ... Dons
After having attended the event I can assess my ability to post content summary. It will be a lot of material. Still, your request is reasonable and I'll do my best to respond positively. ... Dons
Although I too wish he had covered more material in depth, I recognize that there's only so much you can do with an hour and a half. I think it's unrealistic to expect him to propose a geopolitical solution that will SPECIFICALLY solve the world's deepening poverty or protect us from future governments, although the solutions discussed in the Transition movement will have effects on both. But I don't personally think that is -- or can be -- his focus in these short events. As he mentioned, his entire life now revolves around creating awareness of the issue, and creating understanding of how we got ourselves into this predicament. That's an enormous job in and of itself.

It's funny, but I find myself MORE of an optimist after this event and the Boulder event. The conversations I enjoyed with other attendees really reinforced my commitment to strengthening my community and continuing to make meaningful changes in my lifestyle, and in extending my own outreach through writing and through my involvement in social entrepreneurship and sustainability movements. There is a lot of good work going on in small communities all over the world that never makes headlines -- in energy, the economy, and the environment.

It may well be too little, too late. Who the hell knows. But I can't be concerned with that right now. There is too much to be done, and I get too much pleasure from continuing the fight.
