IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS ON COLORADO TRANSITION NETWORK

I have been reading about this on the web and just started today to turning my little furry girlfriend Xani (pronounced Zani) into a green cat.

Litter: Picked up some sawdust from a local mill for free.

Composting: I am setting out to build Xani her own composter from some instructions I found online using sawdust and leaves in a wood box. Several sources said the waste needs to compost for 18 months before it can be used. I am planning to use it on non edible plants.

If there is anyone out there who has been down this road a ways and can share some tips, we would be grateful.

Thanks,
Robear

But wait! We have soil that is too alkaline, so don't we want to balance it with acid compost? Not that I know the ph level of kitty compost, but maybe acidity isn't such a problem for us. Back East now, there it would be a problem because their soil is too acid (that's why they have to add lime to correct their ph.)
Kate and Nisa, Thank you! I really appreciate conversation! Glad to hear about our soil. The subject of acidity didn't come up in the material I read. After reading a bit more it is looking like I am going to make a composter by drilling holes in a garbage can and raising it up on cement blocks. Very time and money friendly and easy to move.
using lime and use non-edible plants

What is an Aphrodisiac
Hi Andy,
I have read to use the kitty compost on non-edible plants only but the use of lime in new to me. How do you suggest using it? Do you have some sources where I can read more?

Thanks,
Robear
Thanks for posting this information. I have been wanting to know how to do this. We are building a new animal shelter in my city and were hoping to come up with a way to compost the waste.
