Who We Are...

CU Going Local is a committed group of university and community members brought together by our common desire to create a more sustainable world through relocalizing our campus community. Through our most fundamental necessity—the food we eat—CU Going Local strives to combat global environmental problems through community-based initiatives.

Our Goals Locally and Globally:

Our mission is threefold. We wish to…

Ø Empower each student to make small changes that positively impact the world, every single day.

Ø Create a stronger sense of community among university members, Boulder residents, and the local nonprofit, Boulder County Going Local, through becoming more in touch with our food.

Ø Relocalize CU’s food system to one that is more ecologically conscious and self-sufficient, thus enabling CU to be a national model for what all universities can do in the future

Right now CU Going Local is working on embodying the Transition Town concept into the student group. For those of you unfamiliar with Transition, I highly recommend you check out the website: http://www.transitiontowns.org/ or at least read the 12 steps to Transition: http://transitiontowns.org/TransitionNetwork/12Steps

The Transition Town movement is huge--and I can't think of a better way to spend our time than to work together in this moment of history and form a community based around our common beliefs and passions. Transition University is a concept that hasn't been done before, but with our love for the movement, hard work, and unified effort, it can happen, and produce something more beautiful than we could ever imagine.

I thought this groug might be interested in a community garden project we have going at Lee Hill and Broadway in Boulder. This project is open to all comers and is in need of someone to take a leadership role (I have three other gardens I am working on as well).

Feel free to contact me if you are interested and I will arrange to meet you at the garden.

Hello! So excited to have discovered this network. I'm an Art/Art History grad at CU and am looking for anyone who'd be interested in beginning a permaculture garden in my yard with me in north Boulder (Folsom and Balsam). The plot is about 20 by 40 and I'm a little busy with a new baby and school, but already have a little team forming to help. Let me know if you're interested! I'll be providing water and will do the main chunk of investing, but really need some hands! thanks!

Good to see everyone at the Chrysallis potluck this evening. Just a reminder, there is a good time to be had this Sunday (March 8th) from 2pm-4pm at the Performing Arts Center @ Naropa University.

It is free; there will be music, education, music, poetry. The topic is around New Orleans, volunteerism, and alternative break opportunities locally and abroad.

Its a potluck and open mic, so if folks could bring some food and would be willing to read a piece of theirs that would be great.

Yours in building community,

Steve Blaes

Its high time I join your Colorado University Transition - I will contribute, in part, by inviting you to two cool February Events that are relevant to all CU Initiative members. Also, I am currently auditing a very good environmental design class at CU that will help us design sustainable communities for future generations.

Cheers!!!
