Good Morning All!

Please save the date and spread the word! I'm passing this along on behalf of my friend John Guffey, who is organizing a bicycle friendly event later this summer to raise awareness of global issues, while promoting cycling as a means to combat them.  From John...

Hi all,

I'm working with a local group in Estes Park to plan a bicycle-friendly event called "Sustainable Estes Green Living Tour and Expo" for Sept. 24, 2011.  I've attached a flyer describing this event and a registration form for groups interested in having a booth at the Expo.  On the same day there is a national day of action on climate change, called "Moving Planet," which you can read about at http://www.moving-planet.org/.  Our event has been registered with Moving Planet to encourage people to bike to Estes and the Expo.  Moving Planet is sponsored by Bill McKibben's organization, 350.org.

I'd like to invite you to help make Sept. 24 a "Bike to Estes Day". By joining this event you'll be supporting bicycle touring as a means to reduce carbon emissions while making a powerful "eco-tourism" statement to the tourism and travel industry in the state of Colorado.   This event can attract positive attention to the blessed bicycle and those who ride it.
Besides Sustainable Estes, there will be other attractions in Estes Park on Sept. 24 to attract cyclists, including the National Park offering free admission that day, and a fall festival in the town square.  It strikes me as a perfect time for a thousand politically active bicyclists to converge on Estes Park - where we can host a welcome to front-range environmentalists coming to set a goal for eco-tourism and eco-friendly travel on our state's scenic byways!  This will promote and sustain bicycle touring in Colorado!  Imagine the day when CDOT installs bike lanes on US-36 and US-34 all the way up Trail Ridge Road!
I need your help getting the word out to bicycling groups and communities in the region.  We are also looking for bicycle businesses who would like to have a booth at the Expo, and we need people to organize riders in communities along the front range.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or would like to discuss this event in more detail.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi fellow permies, I became certified in permaculture design in 2007 at Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in Sonoma, CA. I'm currently residing in Highlands Ranch and permaculturing my backyard and tending bees holistically (off-site as beehives are currently "prohibited" in HR.) Going to attend the 4 workshops that Toby Hemenway is offering in Boulder next week. Really looking forward to it.  best, Judith

Cool beans, happy to join this group...I was part of Sandy Cruz's 2009 P-Design-training in Boulder. Lately, I've been putting my beds, to bed, tucking them in with straw. As our October yields more warm weather, David Holmgren's Future Scenarios weighs heavy on my mind. As permaculturists wondering about the future, each precious moment at hand is an opportunity--it is NOT enough to respond to change--We must see in our mind's eye, permaculture in action, everywhere--Envision the manifestation of P Principles in your local zones, daily. Engage with what is, envision what can be, act.

I have a niece who works at JAX Mercantile in Fort Collins. They are having a "Salute to Gardeners Day" on May 8. They will provide a table and the opportunity to answer questions from gardeners. I said I would do it but I am wondering if there are other permaculturalists living up north there who would like to drum up a few clients and students for their classes? We can hand out brochures and all that stuff.

Let me know if you want to be there. Thanks.

Geoff Lawton just finished a new update to his "Greening the Desert" video. You can see it in 4 parts on youtube, or look for it in one piece (36 minutes) on the opening page of his website. Truly inspirational...worth checking out!

I think my certification is on its way (Zia?) but I'll use the momentum and join anyways.

We are making a trial of a website which would link to permaculture gardener websites where you could follow what they are doing from plan to outcome, and which would have posts about related topics.

I do have concerns about being redundant, but I think it would do something this ning site does not do, in its more "blog-like" and less "social network like" configuration. There is also a new "meetup" group for Boulder permaculturists, where comments also can be posted.

Comments welcome here or on the site: permacultureboulder.blogspot.com

The response to the opportunity to permaculture 1.3 acres next to the Boulder shelter has been lighter than we had hoped - and I have been too busy building gardens to post much here - but we have successfully built, planted and almost completed the drip system for 18 beds. David Ward will be up there this coming Wednesday evening to show off what we have accomplished. See the event for details.

In particular we are looking for people to demonstrate permaculture expertise for the general public.
