If you are interested in live foods and becoming re-skilled...

AN INTRODUCTION TO LIVE FOODS
Wednesday, March 25th, 7-9PM
Boulder Meadows Community Room, 4500 19th Street, Boulder, CO. 80304

Learn how to introduce live foods into your life, in a fun and easy way, without dismantling your current lifestyle. Live foods, like raw foods, generally use less energy and provide more nutrition than cooked foods. However, live foods also unlock beneficial enzymes that support optimal health. In this class, you will be given an introduction to live foods, as well as information about various live food diets. While you don't have to eat just live foods, the more you can incorporate, the greater the benefits will likely be. This free introduction will be followed by a more in-depth and hands-on workshop next month. More details coming soon. Instructor Barbara Yeager brings a wealth of information and resources to her classes, drawing on a lifetime of experience with alternative approaches to heath care, yoga, and meditation. She has been a business owner, a former Natural Law Party candidate for US Congress, and Director of Mothers for Natural Law. After 40 years away, she has recently returned to Boulder. For more information, please visit http://web.me.com/bye1/Life_Openings/Home.html or contact Transition Boulder County at 303-494-1521.

If you want to see a great new movie that's not playing anywhere else in the area...

FUEL: THE MOVIE
Thursday, March 26th, 8PM
The Boulder Theatre, 2032 14th Street, Boulder, CO. 80302

Fuel is an insightful portrait of America’s addiction to oil and an uplifting testament to the immediacy of new energy solutions. Director, Josh Tickell, a young activist, shuttles us on a whirlwind journey to track the rising domination of the petrochemical industry — from Rockefeller’s strategy to halt Ford’s first ethanol cars to Vice President Cheney's petrochemical company sponsored energy legislation — and reveals a gamut of available solutions to "repower America" — from vertical farms that occupy skyscrapers to algae facilities that turn wastewater into fuel. Tickell and a surprising array of environmentalists, policy makers, and entertainment notables take us through America’s complicated, often ignominious energy past and illuminate a hopeful, achievable future, where decentralized, sustainable living is not only possible, it’s imperative. If you're ready to dig your hands in the Earth...

THE BEAUTIFY THE HILL PROJECT
Most Fridays at 4PM
7th and University in Boulder

CU Going Local started their Beautify the Hill project last spring, tilling up right-of-ways up on University Hill and replacing them with organic vegetable gardens. They already started planting two weeks ago, but could definitely use some more help. They are not sure if they will be working during Spring Break, so contact Lilly Justman (ljustman@gmail.com) or Alex Prescott (Alexander.Prescott@colorado.edu) before you go. If you do end up going, it is suggested that you bring a shovel and a pair of gloves if you have them. You will meet wonderful people, have a great time, and later in the season you may be able to take home some of the produce you helped grow!

If you want to be challenged and inspired by one of the elders of the Transition Movement...

WAKING UP FOR THE SAKE OF LIFE ON EARTH: AN EVENING WITH JOANNA MACY
Monday, April 6th, 7PM
The Boulder Shambhala Meditation Center, 1345 Spruce Street, Boulder, CO. 80302

Join the Boulder Shambhala Meditation Center and Transition Boulder County for an evening with the internationally known speaker, deep ecologist, eco-activist and Buddhist teacher, Joanna Macy. Joanna's work addresses psychological and spiritual issues of the nuclear age, the cultivation of ecological awareness, and the fruitful resonance between Buddhist thought and contemporary science. A visionary ahead of her time, Joanna Macy has been an important voice on the world stage for over 50 years, working tirelessly to help move communities toward peace, justice, and environmental sacredness and sanity. She also counsels wisely that caring for the natural world renews and nourishes our natural selves. Her work helps people transform despair and apathy, in the face of overwhelming social and ecological crises, into constructive, collaborative action. Joanna's work has also been highly influential in the creation of two worldwide organizations: The Pachamama Alliance's Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream and the Transition Towns Movement. She has written a number of books, including: Coming Back to Life: Practices to Reconnect Our Lives, Our World; Widening Circles; World as Lover, World as Self; and Mutual Causality in Buddhism and General Systems Theory. This event is $20 ($15 for members and students), but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. It will likely sell-out, so to register early, please visit http://www.boulder.shambhala.org/program_details.php?id=21836&cid=191.

I'd like to invite you all to come to the free 3 D mind mapping workshop at Colorado State University's Mind Body Spirit Fair. Wed Feb 10th Rm 222 Lory student center at 3:30 -4:30 limited to 24 This workshop relates to sustainability because it uses a model that connects the clock, calendar, compass, colorwheel, to symbols and the natural cycles of the Sun and Earth and increases understanding of Solar energy alignment. Check out the aquariancalendar facebook group to learn more. http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=73378896394&ref=ts Also I am interested in finding a place in Boulder that could provide free space to give the workshop there.

Just a reminder, there is a good time to be had this Sunday (March 8th) from 2pm-4pm at the Performing Arts Center @ Naropa University.

It is free; there will be music, education, music, poetry. The topic is around New Orleans, volunteerism, and alternative break opportunities locally and abroad.

Its a potluck and open mic, so if folks could bring some food and would be willing to read a piece of theirs that would be great.

Yours in building community,

Steve Blaes

Hi all,
Well here we are at the beginning of another exciting semester. Prepare for the wild ride, and as Reggie says, for another "shamanic dismemberment"! I am only taking four classes this semester so I am hoping to have some free time to work with Transitioners. Keep me posted on meetings, gatherings, films, and action plans! I'm in! Can't wait to see you all soon. Love, Jen

Let me know what I can do to help. I have significant background in establishing and working with not-for-profit situations in addition to management and computer skills. I have also taught cooking, canning and pickling. My eldest son is a student at Naropa and would very much like to offer my abilites in support of the efforts associated with the school.

Transition Naropa!

I am currently unable to attend the group meeting at Naropa because I am participating in United Naropa's Subcommittee on the Board of Trustees. I would like to attend eventually, but until that time wish me luck in being elected to the Naropa BOT so the students can merge the Strategic Plan and the Transition movement!

When I went around to visit permaculture sites on our home tour for the Second Permaculture Convergence, in Left hand Canyon we discovered Naomi Maddux has worked extensively with many plastering techniques on her most beautiful hand made home. Ellen Rosenthal can lead you to Naomi since i can't put email addresses here.

That lime and hemp plastering technique is absolutely a fantastic idea! I have used american clay plaster and some lime and gypsum plasters as finishes in some homes before, but I was always depressed to find that the sourcing for these materials is extremely difficult to localize (other than lime). Would anyone want to experiment? Of course maybe the availability of hemp would be a good perk. I am also curious as to whether this concept would apply as a slip for strawbale... maybe... I'll have to ponder that a bit.
