IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS ON COLORADO TRANSITION NETWORK

12-3-2008-02

Greenhouse in highly windy conditions following a night with high winds. See how the plastic is billowing on either side of the tie-down on top. The key to keeping plastic on, is to attach it well to a sturdy framework and to prevent wind from getting in under the plastic. Note that all of the clips on the forward sides that hold plastic to bows, have popped off. Plastic held in place by other remaining clips, tie down, and numerous pan head screws and fender washers screwed into wood framing. As the diameter of the clips (made from black plastic irrigation hose) was not quite right, I had to go get the correct diameter hose and make new clips. Now I cross my fingers for the next wind storm...

I replaced the plastic the following year and wrapped it around the windward side of the greenhouse, pleating it and wrapping it around the door frame as well. This meant that I only needed clips for the upper arch. No problems with wind for the last year with the plastic. The belt over the top sometimes needs to be re-attached after high, gusty winds.
