Thanks, Les! I'm going to be coming back up your way this June to do a Training for Transition in Fort Collins. I'll be sending you an email soon, asking you (as well as others) to help spread the word to Louisville Transitioners and your wider social network.
Les, What's up the the breast implant video and ad?
Warmly,
Kathryn
Hi Les, Could you take me off the e-mail list? I can't see where to do that.
I prefer to check out the site occasionally on my own.
Thanks.
Les, That is fantastic that one is already starting up in Littleton!!! I'm just not big on driving into downtown (or much of anywhere), and have two kids to haul, so I love to keep it hyperlocal and get to know the neighbors! I'm happy to do whatever I can to help. Happy holidays!
Kelly
Thanks Les, I just moved to Colorado Springs.
It is warmer and the boyfriend is awesome. We have a small yard, I grew tons of food on it last summer. The soil is nutrient poor, so I will be challenged to build the soil in the next few years.
Thanks for reminding me I am on this listserve.
Chris
question: what do you think of google's deal where any email account holder can activate a unique phone number to get and receive free calls in the US and Canada?
I think the int'l deal is the same: a few cents per minute to most places. i have one and use it quite a bit for free texting and long distance calls.
just curious!
Paz
Sounds good... will do.
Done. Thanks Les! Happy holidays to you and yours as well... Francine
Hola Les,
thanx for the warm welcome!
I am working toward a Master's in Public Health so I am keenly interested in those social aspects that affect our collective well being and health. Transitions, in my view, is a grassroots (pun intended) explosion waiting to happen. No question: this network is growing faster and faster. I believe this movement will eventually reach a critical mass where sustainability, local food and environmental justice become a social norm.
With sufficient numbers, the policy makers will no longer be able to ignore the clear will of the people: we want clean air, water, and food - now.
I remember my grandparent's stories about the victory gardens of World War II. Because shortages were so widespread, most families grew a small "victory" subsistence garden. This was considered a civic duty; this is how you supported the war effort.
I submit to all: we are at war again.
We are at war with an industrial complex that so blithely poisons our food supply in the name of efficiency and cheaper food prices. It seems clear to me that the bottom line and status quo are the actual reasons.
Placing market growth ahead of public health is reprehensible and any politician who supports such policies must be voted out.
But how simple: we can vote with our forks! And the fine people here @Transitions, like yourself Les, who contribute such disparate talent, character and skill, are the engine that will undermine the monoculture market (and cold war mentality).
I will be launching a non-profit of my own next year. Centered on nutrition, health and wellness, my organization will tackle the problems in the "know-do" gap. We know how to build sustainable greenhouses; now how do we put them in every community in every city. Communication is key!
Hi Les - thank you very much for your comment! I am interested in hosting a Littleton Transition Network affiliate group.... although my address is Centennial, our school district is Littleton and my cross streets, Arapahoe and University, are much closer to Littleton than Centennial proper... I do work from home and have 2 small children home for the next 2 weeks so perhaps after the holidays?
In the meantime, I will browse the affiliate sites and search Littleton area again for Tranistion type blogs, meetings etc. In the past I've found nothing which I have to say I found very surprising. I think the time is very ripe in this area. In fact, I had contacted the principle of our school with lunch program ideas and food gardening ideas so she encouraged me to contact the Wellness Coordiantor for LPS (Littleton Public Schools) who was very supportive of the edible school garden, offering to apply for grants and attend meetings to answer questions etc. People have big yards out here and there is a great sense of community, with our elelmentary school at the hub of it. I thought the school might be a great place to start building the sustainable living/community gardening message... I'm open to all feedback and ideas of course so really appreciate you reaching out! Happy holidays! Francine
(ps I was going to "just do it", but then they asked for logo and assuring no violatkion of copyrights, etc, so I realized I should defer to some official TC person.)
Thanks
That seems to me to be a good way to go with the events.
Thanks
I hope you will find the CEA invite to May 24th Global Warming Solutions Speaker Series program that brings Marin County Supervisor, Charles McGlashan, to Boulder. This is our most important event yet! If you have any suggestions of ways to get the word out to Boulder residents (and beyond-this could be a step in the road to "democratizing" all of CO's energy supply!), I would appreciate hearing back from you. Thanks and I hope to see you there,
