Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I have been attending events sponsored by Boulder County Going Local (now Transition Boulder County) for the previous three years and recently attended the first training workshop for Transition Initiative.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Having become aware over the past three to four years of the impending social crisis of peak oil, climate change and economic collapse and having a natural concern for humanity, the planet, future generations, etc. the Transition Movement seems to a perfect formula for addressing this crisis in a humane, timely, relevant, practical, compassionate and fun manner.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
my professional background has involved working for start-up companies, helping to organize and grow them, starting and growing my own business (Peak Bar Energy Bar)..I have had a part-time business and life coaching service called Lifeshift Technologies for about a decade, I have taught meditation (TM) classes through the US and abroad for several decades, public speaking, I have also worked on a volunteer basis with Boulder County Shares (delivering food and clothes and other services to the homeless) as well as with Boulder's MESA (Moving To End Sexual Assault) participating in their Men's Education Program for several years.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
Having taken the weekend workshop training I am continuing to educate myself on various aspects of the Transition Movement and its various elements (eg: Permaculture, etc.) I plan on making public presentations, movie screenings, and having engaging conversation within my community on Transition.

Hi Brian, regarding your statement "we are just starting to develop our TT mission statement (for Manitou Springs) and wanted to see if there were any samples out there that you would care to share...", I suggest you go to http://transitionus.ning.com/forum/topics/ask-the-members and write up your request for the whole membership. I just implemented this piece earlier today, so criticism is welcome....

You'll find our Initiating Group Declaration of Intent on this page here. Look for the attachment that says Dec 9-08 Action Plan, and I think it's Item #7 in the list in that document!

Hey Brian,
You asked about seeing other groups mission statements...are you looking for a statement that outlines what Transition Manitou Springs is all about, or a statement to help guide your initiating group's efforts? We learned that there is a difference there(!) and I'd be happy to share one or both...just want to make sure you're getting what you need! Check out Transition Town Lyons (here) for our stuff!

Hi Brian, thanks for the welcome. I was interrupted before I could join Manitou and I did not see it among the options. I see it on your page. How do I join, just click on it? I have been interrupted again and must run. Will there be minutes of the meeting last night? Were any committees formed? Thanks.

Hi Brian... Let's get together soon on this... have spoken with several folks and there is interest, however, no responses to the email... I think another email that has a date/time/location to get together would be in order... the PDC has the last weekend coming up and then I'll be through with my commitment for that and Transition can slip into the space, EH? Love & light Becky
