Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Joined up Fall 2008 and am beginning to network with the Transition Denver group.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I can see that we are at the cusp of some big changes with peak oil, global warming, and environmental degradation. Not to mention economic woes caused by irresponsible fiscal policy and corporate looting of our common treasury. We need to weave a humane, just, and environmentally responsible way out of this mess.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
The role libraries can play in transition.

The nurturing/cultivation of dialogue within diverse communities (overcoming "culture war" divides by focusing on common ground).

Networking with communities of color, youth, and elders.

Developing national legislation to facilitate the work of transition communities at the local level.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
By networking with groups I'm already a part of.

By liasoning with the library world.

By cultivating an edible garden in my frontyard and engaging with my immediate community around growing food.
Suggestions you have for improving our Registration questions. Getting to know you better.
Would like to know what we want to learn :)

I want to learn how to practice permaculture at home.
I want to learn carpentry, preserving food, preparing food, bicycle repair/maintenance skills. Etc.

The following speech was given at Netroots Nation 2008 in Austin, Texas.

I have a little bit of whiplash. Thirty-six hours ago I was in the Arctic with Jimmy Carter. This is not a joke, you all. (Laughter) It sounds like a joke, right? You hear about the black guy in the Arctic with Jimmy Carter? No, I was really ... (Laughter)

Organic Farm Blossoms in Kenya's Largest Slum

Published on Saturday, September 20, 2008 by Guardian/UK

by Xan Rice in Nairobi

Victor Matioli's organic pumpkins are plump, his coriander aromatic and his spinach "very soft, sweet, and tasty". His half-acre farm is a former rubbish dump in the heart of east Africa's biggest slum.

So arresting is the sight of tall sunflowers growing amid the rust-coloured shacks and dirt paths of Kibera that Matioli and his fellow… Continue

Hi Evi - Saw you at the 350 Denver rally. I was there with the family, but you never quite caught my eye. Nice to see you here! I'm really hoping to get something going to increase weatherization. I just got a press release in the SW Denver Herald on it, so it's a very small start.

Hi Evi,

Here is an update from the collective kids. For lack of better word
that is what I called them but they do have specific names for places
and project. This is called the Sherwood project.

If you want to get on the list, it came from :
sceelen@mscd.edu

By the way, I would like to give more to KGNU so I figure
if I can spread the word so that others can contribute more.
That is another reason. Maybe I can be a 1390 member just
by getting 1390 members?!!!

James

Last weekend was a huge success. The Rukus Refinery (21st york) had
plenty of hands to help start their gardens at their new house. We
made new beds, a fence, compost pile, herb spiral, rain garden and
squash trellis. In 4 hours we put in about 100 work hours! What an
amazing Day.

There are two things planned for this weekend. Saturday we will go to
see David Braydon's large garden. He is doing a demonstration on his
sheet mulching, drip iragation and planting. He harvests by hand wild
grasses and sheet mulches them in his beds. He is partners with David
Goliath on the Project N.I.C.E. They are establishing many gardens
across town. We owe David Goliath much thanks for his help in delivering
Manure to our projects! We will meet at the pitchfork (2858 California
St) at 9am on Satuday and carpool or bus from there. It is planned to
last until 2pm.

Sunday we will also be meeting at the Pitchfork colletive at 12pm . We
will disscus the process of getting chickens and begin building our
chicken run and coop. (We are looking for roofing material including
plywood if you know of some available.) We will also have time to break
off into small groups and learn about various other sustainability
projects. Joe will bring materials for his be hive and we can show our
seedlings and compost operation. Anyone who wants to contribute and
share something can come at 11am to plan it out.

hope to see you there

sorry if you received this e-mail twice, we are working to condense our

hi evi, i wish i could do the same! i commute south to castle rock and there isn't any way of getting there that doesn't involve about 3 switches of public transport and a good 2 hours of my time. and i've had no luck finding carpoolers going where i'm going. i'm keeping an eye out for a similar job here in denver -- i don't like working outside the community in which i live, it makes me feel split between two places.
