Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I am a supporter of the movement in general. Specifically I am juggling many roles in trying to be of service and being present in the face of some very real deterrents. Education, skill building, celebration, and communication are parts that I am working on developing and bringing to the greater community.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
It very much appeals to my sense of preservation and sustainability of life. I grew up on a farm; the woods were my playground, the corn and soy fields spanned to the horizon, skating and playing hockey on frozen (at times) ponds in the winter. I left the farm and moved to the city, then traveled around the country and found myself at universities and volunteering, or on Bourbon Street... in the Tetons... now I'm in Boulder and I hope to do my part to generate some positivity and transition back to the farm I left. But, I have much more to learn before I make that step.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
Green Building, building greener gardens, building community, working really really hard, cooking, music, climbing, drinking beers, volunteering, teaching, apparently fresh juiced apple juice... siesta fiestas in the south green staring up through the leaves of the Sycamore tree... reading great and not so great works of literature, general conversation.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement?
I am a do-er of many things, and I work well with others. I am able to be spportive when that is necessary, to lead when the opportunity presents itself, and to be patient and listen consistently.

My experience of Transition

My experience of Transition came from my time of service in disaster response. I responded to Hurricane Katrina. The majority of my efforts were focused through the lens of volunteering and leading volunteers. I was a team leader for the AmeriCorps NCCC and had a team of 10 that I stayed with for a year of service work. It was not only New Orleans City proper that I worked in, it included the greater metropolitan area, Mississippi, and Alabama. This built upon my previous volunteer experience;… Continue

Steve,
There is so much out there on prunning of trees. One of my best sources of information over the years comes from the International Society of Arboriculture at www.isa-arbor.com. We will have to discuss sources next time we meet.

What a great video we saw on Rob Hopkins the other day!

Hey Stephen, is this open to everybody or just to Naropa?

A message from Stephen Blaes to all members of Transition University Naropa on Transition Colorado!

If you are interested in being interviewed for a webcast/documentary concerning transition and all things considered please shoot me a message. The interviews will be recorded digitally and uploaded onto this site and will be submitted to the people who are putting together the transition movie across the pond. Tea and a meal at the Peideia co-op are the perks to the deal.
