Margaret, since you were asking about compost, I thought I would post a picture of the year long compost pile my wife and I made. This was just the two of us veggie/fruit from our table. Deb and I have been eating a plant based diet for the past 9 months (no meat or animal products, including eggs and milk) and so we might have more than the average meat eating family.
What we did was set up two rows high by 15 long cinder blocks and dropped our scraps in and kept piling it in. Turned it over every so often watered it from the water from my biodiesel processor wash system and there you go. Lots of worms found their way and had a good time, made some nice dirt.
We're gonna take the compost with us to our new gardens when we move. I'm anxious to see how well it will help our food grow. Hope you enjoy the pics.
Margaret, Nice to meet you (sort of). I would be most delightful to meet for a potluck. I noticed from your answers to the questions that you quilt. My wife, Debra, does also, now that she is going to be retired(Feb. 1, 2011) she wants to do more and other craft stuff.
In answer to your question. We'll be "permenantly" in C. Springs Feb 1, 2011 But we will be in transition all the month of January.
Thanks for taking on the responsibility of leading this group. Let me know how I can help.
Welcome to the Permaculture PDC when you get to it this year. I noticed you like to spin, weave & do handcrafts that's great to share with others & really needed more & more. Willow Way has an April through October 2010 Perm certification course - look on their website, am team teaching this one. See the course description here: http://www.ziaparker.com/pc/

Thanks for joining! I have been looking for something in the Springs to get involved in... found nothing that wasn't really already full. So decided to make something for myself and other. Glad you hear a chord!
Right now I am staying in Boulder with my daughter and her family because I have MS and David is on the road a lot. I will be relocating back to the Springs sometime in the next five weeks and am really looking forward to it.
Looking forward to meeting everyone. Perhaps by having a pot luck this spring.

Hello Margaret! Just found and joined this group. Thanks for puttin' it out there! Read your profile, and heard a chord sound on the topics of solar cooking, crochet, spinning, and a permaculture certificate. Hope to talk with you on these one day soon!
